An Instant Payment Solution

Trella Fast is a program that allows qualifying carriers to receive their payments instantly for a small fee.

Trella is a trucking marketplace that removes the trucking hassle by connecting shippers with qualified carriers to move and manage loads seamlessly.

MY ROLE

I led the discovery, research and design. Working with product managers, data analysts, developers and the finance team.

THE PROBLEM

2023 was a year carriers faced unprecedented market conditions, with record-breaking inflation reaching 40%, diesel prices rising 14% and spare-parts prices increasing by up to 130%. All while their rates saw minimal increase.

Cash flow became more important than ever for carriers to stay in business, and quickly accessing cash was challenging, where carriers typically wait around 20 days to be paid.

We interviewed 40 carriers with various monthly earnings, to uncover the following insights:

Market Payment Terms

15 to 25 days for shipments outside Trella’s marketplace.

Instant Payments for a Fee

40% would instantly cash out at a fair deduction when needed.

Existing Solutions

A similar program exists informally in some ports, where carriers can sell their proof of delivery documents to other carriers at a fixed discount.

We worked on an MVP to pilot the program with a small number of highly engaged carriers.

We introduced a prominent ‘Withdraw’ button at the top of the wallet page, following the Carrier Balance.

We used a bottom sheet for the withdrawal, providing that fast and ease feeling.

Transparent fees and actual totals clearly displayed to build trust.

Confirmation

Finishing off a seamless withdrawal experience with a concise summary and a transaction reference number.

In the event of an issue, one of several error states is displayed to ensure clarity and assistance.
